Student Hub

Welcome to the Aurora Foxes Student Hub!

On this page you will find information about our activities, student houses, what to expect when working at Foxes Hotel, and some easy-to-read documents with widgets that will help you understand more about Aurora Foxes.

Your student house

We have 7 student houses in Minehead that students live in whilst they are at Aurora Foxes. Our houses are mixed, which means that students from different year groups live together. This is helpful for new students because they can learn from the young people who have been studying at Foxes already. It is also helpful for our current students to be given that extra responsibility of being a mentor and good role model for those who might be nervous about settling in to Foxes life. The house names are: Foxes Earth, Foxes Hive, Foxes Hollow, Foxes Lodge & Burrow, Foxes Loft, Foxes Roost, Foxes Trading Post.

Your bedroom could look like this:

All meals and drinks are provided to students in the houses. You will be supported to plan and prepare your meals, learn about healthy choices and nutrition to support you with your health and wellbeing.

Make sure that any specific dietary requirements, such as, food allergies or intolerances are made known to the House Manager.

Your House Managers:

At Aurora Foxes you will move to a different student house every year of your course. This supports you to adapt, get to know new people and have increased levels of independence as you progress through your course. At each house you will have a House Manager and a Deputy House Manager. Their job is to support you with your wellbeing, your planned activities, and anything else you might need whilst living in a shared house. Your House Managers are:

Therapy

The in-house Therapy Team supports all students at Aurora Foxes. You will have access to Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy when you need it. Therapy targets are incorporated into all aspects of the residential programme.

The goal of therapy is to help young people overcome barriers to learning and independence. Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy empower students at Aurora Foxes and beyond. They help develop independence, self-confidence, self-advocacy, knowledge, and self-management. This helps prepare students for work and life.

Occupational Therapy

At Aurora Foxes, occupational therapists have various roles. They can help you engage in activities, increase your independence, concentration, mobility and more!

How Can Occupational Therapy (OT) Help?

Speech & Language Therapy (SaLT)

Speech and language therapy (SaLT) can help you to improve your communication problems to help you with your wellbeing and participation. Our goal at Aurora Foxes is to ensure that all students have equal opportunities in society by reducing barriers caused by speech, language, and communication difficulties.

Social Stories

At Aurora Foxes, 'Social Stories' are regularly used to support you through key events, current problems and by explaining changes. The Speech and Language Therapist will work with you and support staff to write  the story so that the subject is understood and is meaningful to you personally.

A Social Story aims to:

· Describe a social situation in a way that helps people with developmental disorders (often Autism) to understand

· Helps students to make sense of social situations, routines, the meaning of language and the unwritten social rules

· Helps a student to understand what behaviour is expected and why it is important

Examples of Social Stories:
