Learning beyond the classroom
Students at Aurora Summerfields School have recently been exploring their local community through various school trips and community-based lessons, where they've been learning new skills, exploring new places, and most importantly, having lots of fun!
Offsite trips are a significant part of learning at Aurora Summerfields School. These outings support students in developing important life skills like social interaction, communication, coping with change, independence, self-confidence and problem-solving. Here are some of the exciting trips our students have recently been involved in:
- Bramall Hall: Students explored this historic Tudor manor house and discovered the stories of the people who lived there.
- Carrs Park: Students have taken part in various sporting activities in the local park for their regular PE lessons. The positive feedback from local park visitors made these lessons even more special.
- Oxygen Rock Climbing: Our regular visits to the rock climbing centre have encouraged students to challenge themselves. Each week they gain confidence as they push their boundaries and reach new heights!
- Staircase House – 1460 to WWII: Students had the opportunity to step back in time at Staircase House, using their senses to experience history. They felt the textures of historical objects, had a go at quill pen writing and explored daily life in the 17th century.
- Gymnastics Lessons: Offsite PE gymnastics classes have been a hit with students, who have practiced skills in balance, flexibility, strength and coordination.
- Science Museum: During their visit, students explored Manchester's industrial evolution and participated in science experiments involving light, heat, and shadow.
