My Aurora Career Story

Moving On Up - Case Studies

Below are a few examples of how our teaching staff and education support workers progressed into teaching and care management roles.

Teaching Assistant to Teacher

Jennifer Fishlock - Aurora Eccles School

‘I began my employment at Aurora Eccles School in the spring of 2018 as a newly qualified Teaching Assistant. I worked hard, and undertook numerous courses, extending my knowledge and understanding, so I could better support the students in the setting. Early on in my employment I completed my ELKLAN training and became a Licensed THRIVE Practitioner.

Aurora had seen my potential through my dedication to my role and within a year I was given the role of unqualified teacher and began my studies to gain my Cert Ed, which was funded by Aurora. The following year I completed my QTLS, which was fully funded by Aurora, to become a qualified teacher. I continue to grow in my career and continue to study with the support and encouragement of my colleagues and senior leadership team. I cannot thank Aurora enough for the opportunities they have given, and continue to give me.”

Teaching Assistant to Unqualified Teacher

Benjamin Mason - Aurora Keyes Barn School

“I started at Aurora Keyes Barn School back in 2017. At the time I was new to education but within a few months I had settled in and was gaining a better understanding of the impact our school has on young learners’ lives. The setting, learners and staff are all amazing and I took advantage of the training and progression opportunities offered to me.

In 2019 I enrolled on the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Apprenticeship. During this time, I received fantastic support from both the training provider and experienced staff within the school. Now I am working as an unqualified teacher while I finish my Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship. The past few years have given me something rewarding to work towards, and I would like to thank Aurora for the opportunities. Fingers crossed I can continue to better my career in the future.”

Support Worker to Deputy Care Manager

Lucy Boot - Aurora Boveridge College

“Before starting at Aurora Boveridge College, I was unsure what my future career looked like. I saw the advert for a Support Worker role and thought why not try it! I started in 2018 as a Residential Support Worker and loved it. I went on to complete my Level 3 Apprenticeship in Adult Care whilst continuing to gain work experience with the Occupational Therapy and Education teams. Fast forward another year, and I was successful in applying for the Deputy Care Manager position. One and a half years on and I have now begun my Level 5 Leader in Adult Care qualification, which will open my future more.

Aurora promotes progression and training; I have experienced first-hand the benefits of this, and I could not be more grateful for the opportunities of funded training alongside the progression which Aurora offers. They are and will be the ones to thank for my future aspirations and goals becoming true!”
