We’re thrilled to announce that The Aurora Group is a certified B Corp
This year we were assessed independently from Octopus Group, our financial backer, and are incredibly proud to have scored 110.6 - way above the 80 point threshold required for certification. In fact our score puts us in the top 15% of all certified companies!
It’s unusual to meet the 80 point target on first assessment and globally less than 1% of companies meet the threshold for B Corp certification, so it’s a huge achievement.
But what is a B Corp and why is becoming one important?
What’s B Corp?
B Corp is a new kind of business. The ‘B’ stands for ‘Benefit for all’. Simply put, it means we operate with purpose, not just to make a profit. Our company articles of association (our rules about how we’re run) have been updated to make this commitment from us legally binding into the future.
Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies independently verified by B Lab, a global non-profit network, which have demonstrated and met high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
B Corp is a worldwide movement of over 8,000 companies, all striving for positive change for the world around us.
Why is it important?
To become a B Corp, a business needs to have the right values in place to begin with and our corporate objectives closely align with the B Corp values.
Dan Slater, Strategy Director, said: “Everyone at Aurora should be really proud of this achievement. The process of becoming a certified B Corp is rigorous; they looked into every area of our business and don’t hold back with their challenges!
“Gaining this external accreditation means more to us than just having a certificate, it’s about us being a valued part of the communities we serve and represents a commitment from us to continue to do good.”
“We always want to do and be better and are very proud to be part of a worldwide movement of mission-led companies that balances purpose and profit.
“But this is just the beginning. We’re dedicated to doing the right thing for everyone impacted by our business and this will always drive how we act and all decisions we make.”
