Aurora Woodlands School in Darwen appoints new headteacher
Sarah Gregory, 49, has been appointed headteacher of Aurora Woodlands School, an independent day school in Darwen which provides specialist education and therapeutic provision for boys aged 10-19.
Having worked within both the specialist and mainstream education sectors in London and the North West region for 27 years, Sarah will now lead 32 staff to deliver the highest quality of education and support to 56 students.
Her most recent post was as head of Nugent House School in Wigan where she championed and successfully embedded a trauma and attachment informed approach across the school.
“I’m very much looking forward to leading the Woodlands School family,” she said. “Together, I have no doubt our school will continue to flourish as a safe and happy place, with high aspirations and shared values.”
Many of the students who arrive at Woodlands have had negative experiences of school in the past so Sarah says she’s committed to ensuring that their experience at Woodlands will be different as they’ll be valued and heard.
Situated in a beautiful location in the small town of Darwen, students enjoy access to a range of specialist on-site facilities, including an ICT suite, a library with breakout area, a fully equipped design technology workshop, and a five-a-side 3G football pitch, as well as access to local leisure facilities.
They achieved excellent GCSE results this year with a 100% pass rate in Maths and 91% in English. In addition, all leavers were offered employment or further education placements.
Sarah says she’s looking forward to meeting the local community to discuss how the school can be an even more active part of Darwen and the surrounding locale.
