Aurora Woodlands School Achieves Level 2 in RHS School Gardening Awards
We’re pleased to announce that Aurora Woodlands School has proudly received Level 2 in the RHS School Gardening Awards. The Awards, set up by the Royal Horticultural Society, provide a structure to develop gardening while celebrating the progress made by schools.
Achieving Level 2 focuses on two areas: supporting pupil wellbeing and developing new gardening skills. At Aurora Woodlands School, students have been working hard in ‘Highgrove’, their much-loved school garden, to create a thriving outdoor space. Here, they grow a variety of produce, including fruits, vegetables, and herbs. This homegrown food is then incorporated into the weekly menu by the school chef, giving all students an opportunity to enjoy the fruits of their labour!
The garden has quickly become a rich habitat for native wildlife. Highgrove is not only a sanctuary for the pupils but also a haven for local residents of the furry, flying and crawling kind! Combining their woodworking skills and passion for the outdoors, the students have made bug hotels and bird feeders, which they have placed around the school grounds.
Having successfully completed Level 2 of the RHS School Gardening Awards, Aurora Woodlands School is now setting its sights on the next milestone: Level 3. This next stage focuses on expanding the variety of plants grown, maintaining plant health, and employing eco-friendly gardening practices.
